There are several companies in the UK offering DVD
rental online. Most of them use similar systems - for a fixed monthly fee you
can rent as many DVDs as you want (known as unlimited - but obviously
limited by the number of days in the month, and the speed of the postal service) - but you're limited to the number of DVDs you
can rent at any one time.
DVDs are sent by post, with free delivery (usually first class), and include a pre-paid envelope
to return the DVD. LoveFilm also offer video game rental as part of their
packages.
Most of the DVD rental services offer free DVD rental trials so you can test out their
service before deciding on a monthly commitment.
Use the chart below to compare what's on offer and find the best monthly package
for your DVD rental requirements.

| LoveFilm DVD Rental | Over 60,000 DVDs to choose from.
Game rental also available - for GameCube, PS2, PSP, Xbox and Xbox360. Verdict: For the widest range of DVDs and the added bonus of video game rental, LoveFilm is highly recommended. If you're not interested in games, or want a cheap limited DVD package you may find a better deal elsewhere. |
14 days | Unlimited rentals: 1 DVD: £9.99 2 DVDs: £12.99 3 DVDs: £15.99 Light user plans (limited DVD rentals per month) at £5.99 and £8.99 |

| Blockbuster DVD Rental | The well known high street chain's
online DVD rental service. A large selection of DVDs to choose from,
but game rental is not available. Verdict: Great choice of DVDs and good range of packages make Blockbuster a good choice - but not the cheapest. |

| EasyCinema DVD Rental | This service is provided by
LoveFilm, but does not include game rental. This is different in
that DVD rental is a flat fee of £1.99. You have to buy credits in
advance (a minimum of £7.96), and credits last for 90 days. If you
still have a DVD in your possession at the end of this period you
will automatically be charged for another 90 days. Verdict: If you just want to rent the occasional DVD this could be the cheapest option. Recommended. |
No free trial, 7 day money back guarantee. | Flat rate of £1.99 per DVD. |

| Amazon DVD Rental | Over 40,000 DVDs to choose from.
No unlimited DVD rental package available, and games not available.
Customers get 10% off DVDs purchased from Amazon. Verdict: Good selection of DVDs, but no unlimited packages available. If you only want a few DVDs per month and can take advantage of the 10% discount off purchased DVDs Amazon is a good choice. |
14 days | No unlimited package available. 2 DVDs per month: £4.99 3 DVDs per month: £5.99 4 DVDs per month: £7.99 6 DVDs per month: £9.99 |
|
| Tesco DVD Rental | The Tesco DVD rental service is
run by the company behind LoveFilm, but there are some differences.
There are no games available, and the value packages send the DVDs
by second class post. Verdict: On price alone Tesco is the winner - unless you want to rent games or have more than 3 DVDs at a time. Recommended |
14 Days | Unlimited: 1 DVD: £7.97 2 DVDs: £11.47 3 DVDs: £13.97 Tesco Value: 2 DVDs per month: £4.47 3 DVDs per month: £5.97 4 DVDs per month: £7.47 |

| My Movie Stream DVD Rental | A smaller selection of DVDs
available - but still enough to satisfy most people. No Game rental. Verdict: No free trial, and unless you're interested in having up to 6 DVDs at a time we can find no reason to recommend this service. |
First month half price | 2 DVDs per month: £4.99 4 DVDs per month: £7.99 Unlimited: 2 DVDs £12.99 3 DVDs: £14.99 4 DVDs: £19.99 6 DVDs: £24.99 |

| Movie Mine DVD Rental | A smaller selection of DVDs to
choose from than some of the others means some DVDs are not
available, but they have a good selection of good value packages. Verdict: Unavailability of some DVDs, no free trial and a poor website make it difficult to recommend Movie Mine, although their 4DVDs for £5.99 package looks great value. |
First month half price | Unlimited: 1 DVD: £9.99 2 DVDs: £12.99 3 DVDs: £14.99 4 DVDs: £19.99 5 DVDs: £25.99 Limited rentals: 4 DVDs per month: £5.99 |
